Lol... browsing through the comments makes me facepalm- It's especially shocking that a lot of people are actually defending art theft.. "just sharing"? that's utter bullshit: As soon as you upload an artwork here that isn't your, you crave fame, compliments and admiration for something you did not make. example - what we have here is a popular picture which can be found all over the web, uploaded by some user who did not create it- : [link]
She received a compliment for a picture she did not take, and replies "thx". "Thx" for what I wonder? It's like this
person1: look I found this really cool image on the internet person2: woah, the colours look really impressive, and all the details- the artist did a great job! person1: Thank you.
This is disgusting and only shows that these people don't have any pride. They are honourless scum who crave compliments for something they are too untalented to create. Of course that also means that they are unable (not intelligent enough) to reflect on their own behaviour.
I have had my artworks stolen and /or traced various times (That's actually why I joined DA- because I found some of my older pics uploaded here by someone else - one claimed that he created the image withing 30 minuted... the truth is that it took me 2 weeks. He got far more compliments than I did anywhere else - any idea how that feels?!) If I would ever run into one of them (in RL ofc), I'd beat the crap out of them.
With this picture you depicted art thieves as what they are: ridiculous scumbags.
A lot of the kids who do this are part of the digital generation that has also had their self-esteem coddled their entire lives by both parents and school systems. The digital part makes them want instant gratification, the self-esteem coddled part makes them completely unable to handle correction of any kind whatsoever which also includes all forms of the word "no" and all incarnations of "you made a mistake".
They don't want to put in the time and effort it takes to get good enough at something to receive praise for it, so instead they just swipe things they didn't make in order to get that instant praise. They have zero respect for anyone but themselves, and the world revolves around them, their desires, and their happiness as far as they're concerned. Whether or not they screw over a real artist doesn't matter so long as they get those empty faves and "omg that's so kawaii!! ur awsome!" comments.
I see the instant gratification angle all the time when I teach digital coloring workshops. While they're usually not the thieving kids, most of them still want it NOW. No matter how easy or quick something is when I demo how to do it, there will ALWAYS be at least one kid who wants to know if there's a shorter way to do it or if there's a filter or tool that will do it for you. They don't like hearing "no, you have to practice", particularly when the practice comes with criticism in the case of visual art.
As for personal theft and traces, I've had that happen a lot to me as well. I've had three different sellers banned from eBay for slapping my work onto purses (for fifty bucks a pop, no less), light switch plates, whatever. I've been called a "fucking lier" by the friends of the little thieves who stole my work, saying that they watched their friend draw it even though I originally posted it when they were 8 years old. Another kid tried to sell one of my images on Gaia for gaiagold, and when he was confronted about it by someone he said I was his aunt and gave him permission to do it. I have one niece that is 11 years younger than me and that's it. The stupidity of thieves never ceases to amaze me.
Hell, when I first joined DA and uploaded some stuff I woke up the next morning to find my gallery cleaned out and a bunch of notes in my inbox saying the things I'd uploaded were stolen. It turns out some kid had been on here for FOUR MONTHS before then not only uploading my stuff (over 250 pieces of my work!), but impersonating me. They copied my journal entries from LiveJournal, they talked to other people as me, they critiqued artwork as me, everything. I actually had to draw something saying that person was a thief before people would believe that I was actually me! Once the impersonator caught wind of me being here they immediately cleaned out their account and left a journal entry saying they were leaving because there was too much theft.

Look, I'm not defending art theft, at all. The thing is I didn't know that if I posted a picture that's not mine people will call me an art thief, I didn't know at all (back then) but of course when people told me it's not right, I deleted them right away, the problem is that the argument happened because I was stubborn, dry headed, childish, I admit that, but that doesn't give people the right to call me an art thief when I didn't know anything about it, I was a noob. Now I know that 'it's a crime' when someone post a picture that he/she didn't create' I agree with you, art theft is not an honorable thing to do. It's not right to own someone's credit for something you didn't do. I just want everyone to understand that. I'm not some low life scumbag who enjoys being an ass. ^^
Hello! I just stumbled over this, and I do get your point. However, seeing as you never read the rules, I just wish to ask you if you know about them now! I do realise your point that if you are giving credit, it isn't art theft, but according to the DA rules, this acctually is art theft! seeing as you hadn't read the rules, I am now telling them to you! does this clear stuff up? I don't wish to start a fight or anything, and I do realise this happened a while ago. I'd just like if you could answer my question.

Alright, I'll answer your question. But first of all, you didn't tell me the rules. Second, after that shit storm I think that even the dumbest person would've understood the rules by now... No offense but your question is fucking stupid. And I get the rules from the first time, and that's not the reason I'm arguing with these idiots. It's because they don't have the right to do what they're doing. They need to shut the fuck up and leave people alone, they're not the admins of this site, they need to mind their fucking business and leave it to the admins to take care of the issue. But then again this site itself is so fucking stupid. Thanks for getting my point anyway.
Thanks for answering! Do you always use such rude words in your language? Since I never did anything wrong to you, why are you being so rude? Just wanted to let you know this just makes you look more stupid. perhaphs thats the reason why many people are mad at you. Also, they do have some right in telling you what to do, even if they aren't admins. All deviants are entitled to right of speech and freedom to express opinion. I think if you are doing something wrong, its very nice of them to help you correct yourself and get on the right path!

Using rude words doesn't make me look stupid! I'm being rude because people are too stupid to understand. I try to act civil in the beginning but that doesn't always help. And yeah, I welcome people to tell me something I don't know, IF they say it in a nice way. FYI, they've been rude to me first so I was, they weren't nice so why should I act nice to them? If people anywhere want to correct someone, they should do it in a nice way, if they weren't expecting any shitstorms, and don't want any arguments. Those people who look around for art thieves are much worse than the art thieves themselves, they're pathetic in my opinion, and they're making people leave this site. And I know people have the right to speak their minds, but they don't do that, they force their opinions in people throats and tell them what to do like they own the fucking thing. >.>
Anyway, I was done here 'till you popped up. -_- I'm not replying if you send another comment.
Just letting you know that they weren't forcing an opinion down your throat, They were enforcing the deviantart law. Its sorta like having someone sitting in the seat in the car next to you, telling you to slow down when you go too fast. They might be annoying, but in the end they are trying to help you remain safe and not get caught. They are just helping to enforce the law. And if you dont listen to them, they will get rude, and have every right to get rude just like you, since they are in the same car, and can get hurt too. You dont need to reply anymore.
Not knowing is no excuse, it's in the terms and conditions you accept BEFORE even uploading an image, so duh, you ignored the rules, posted an image that you DID NOT create and thus makes you an ART THIEF
Calm down. There are plenty of people here who don't know every facet of DA's ToS, which is why you should always politely inform them of whatever policies they are breaking and nicely ask them to remove the violations. In many cases it is just ignorance and the person will say "Oops, my bad", remove the violations, and not make the same mistake again.
If they blatantly say the work is theirs and they don't remove it, THEN you can call them a thief.
au contraire, some people DO read the T&C, there's even digest snips of it in the help area, so there is no excuse for thefting, not even a mistake can be forgiven, if you're half as smart as you claim, you'd have checked everything out first, so no sympathy for ya, thief
yeah I know that's a troll. There are too many idiots and kiddos roaming on this site and whiteknights like that smoothporcupiss with their liberal shit and low IQ thinking. Haha probably that's the only entertainment in their life. They rather look like pissed of low-life person stalking here every day.
